Police say a 70-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday on Flatlands Avenue and East 78th Street.
They say the incident happened around 1 p.m. Police say when they arrived at the scene Maria Lorente was unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to the body.
The incident was captured on surveillance video.
"He didn't even stop. He just hit her," said Lorente's son Jose Tapanes. He says he is confident that the NYPD will find the person responsible because of surveillance cameras as well as speed cameras along Flatlands Avenue.
EMS responded and transported Lorente to Brookdale Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
"I feel dead. To tell you the truth, I feel dead inside. I saw her at the hospital, she was just laying there like it was nothing. They had her wide open," said Tapanes.
Police say a dark-colored sedan was traveling westbound on Flatlands Avenue and struck Lorente while she was crossing Flatlands Avenue.
Police say the driver fled the scene.
There have been no arrests at this time. The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
The incident appears to mark Brooklyn's first pedestrian death of 2020.
