Police: 68-year-old woman killed by cement truck in Borough Park

Posted: Updated:

A 68-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a cement truck in Borough Park, according to police.

Witnesses say just before noon, the victim stepped out of a grocery store near the intersection of New Utrecht Avenue and 49th Street. Dash cam video then shows the woman wait at the curb for a few seconds.

Video then shows her try to cross the street between vehicles during a red light. Shortly after, the light turns green and a cement truck runs her over. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A witness says the incident was the most gruesome sight he's ever seen.

Police say the 48-year-old driver of the truck stayed at the scene and it is unclear if he will be charged or issued any traffic violations.

The busy stretch of New Utrecht Avenue was shut down for nearly four hours as investigators collected evidence.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
