A family is searching for closure after their loved one was killed in a hit-and-run last month in Brighton Beach.

Josy Alcindor will always remember the evening of Dec. 28. It's when she found out her 84-year-old mother Jeanne was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a car at the intersection of Ocean Parkway and Brighton Beach Avenue.

"I called her phone and a police officer picked up the phone," says Alcindor.

Police say the driver just kept going after the incident. They say speed was possibly a factor.

Alcindor says her mother was a loving and kind person, the matriarch of the family. Now, she wants to see whoever was responsible held accountable.

Both Alcindor and her friend, Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus, whose district the crash was in, are calling for more preventative measures.

According to Vision Zero data, there have been nearly a dozen crash-related fatalities at the intersection and nearby.

Frontus says she stands behind other Brooklyn officials in supporting the Hit-and-Run Prevention Act.

"Anyone who leaves the scene of a hit-and-run crime can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in the same way that someone who was drinking and driving would," says Frontus.

Jeanne Alcindor left behind six children and 20 grandchildren. Alcindor says they're still in mourning.

"Justice needs to be served," says Alcindor.
