An audit with the Postal Service's Office of Inspector General found that most Greenpoint and Williamsburg post offices held onto years-old mail.

The audit describes how both stations had tubs of old mail from as far back as 2016. It also details how many of the mailrooms were dirty and filled with mis-scanned packages.

The audit was conducted in August after local elected officials raised concerns of their constitutients not receiving deliveries.

News 12 reached out to USPS on the matter and it said it agrees with the findings and recommendations saying, "The postmaster of Brooklyn and the Williamsburg and Greenpoint station managers have been instructed to follow the correct protocol for timely mail delivery."
