A bicyclist was killed after police say he was struck by the driver of a flatbed truck in East Williamsburg.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. in front of 305 Vandervoot Ave. and was caught on surveillance video.

Responding officers say they found 41-year-old Pedro Lopez laying on the pavement unconscious and unresponsive with severe injuries. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police tell News 12 it appears a 54-year-old man driving a 2005 Isuzu flatbed truck that was headed northbound on Vandervoot Avenue when it made a U-turn and ultimately struck the cyclist.

Witnesses tell News 12 the driver was trying to turn into the garage of a business on Vandervoort Avenue. They say he was trying to turn while avoiding a car that was stopped. However, when he made the turn, witnesses say he slammed into the bicyclists and ran him over before hitting the curb and slamming into a parked car.

Investigators say the driver remained at the scene and has not been charged.
