Demonstrators flooded Grand Central Station's Friday evening commute to protest what they say is an over-policing of the subway system.

The call to action was made by a group called "Decolonize This Place." They sent a message on Twitter that said the "the streets are ours, the trains are ours," coining the event with the hashtag J31 for Jan. 31.

 

The protest started after the arrest of a 15-year-old in Downtown Brooklyn was caught on camera.

They are protesting the $2.75 fare and the 500 newly sworn-in officers who are set to patrol the transit system.

Photos and videos from earlier efforts show Gorilla Glue on subway turnstiles. Protesters also marked stations with anti-police rhetoric.

The New York City Police Benevolent Association called this "an end of all policing and destruction of public order." The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it has zero tolerance for actions that divert valuable time, money and resources away from investments in transit services.

Police were on high alert as commuters made their ways home.
