Brooklyn native starts coworking space to help minority women

With Black History Month underway, News 12 is celebrating the inspiring story of woman who has opened a coworking space to help minority women.

Cloe Luv, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, says she grew up surrounded with amazing female friends and family.

"I felt like if women can gather in a space where they can get that authentic support, we will prevail,” says Luv.

That's what inspired her business, Cloe's Corner in Boerum Hill, a coworking space to help minority and underprivileged women succeed with their own business.

“We're geared towards closing the gap between women’s businesses that are failing in the first two years and the reasons that they're failing. Lack of resources, lack of training,” says Luv.

She's says as she started her own business she experienced those obstacles and that’s what she wants to help people like her overcome.

She says there has been lack of education.

“We're not taught credit, we're not taught financial literacy, and it was important for me to create a space like this so that minority women, black women can get those tools,” says Luv.

Members of the space can come between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the week to work.

“I didn't want it to be for minorities only. I didn't want it to be for black women only, because I feel like the true way to empower each other is to really understand what we're going through by race culture ethnicity age.”

She says men are welcome here as well. She says it's important for people of all backgrounds to work together.
