A Holocaust survivor from Midwood wrote an opera about a Jewish rebellion in Poland.

Harry Bialor, 89, was 12 when his father was murdered right in front of him. His mother and three of his siblings were also killed in the Holocaust. He hid in a bunker underneath manure and had to steal food and kill animals for nourishment for two years.

Now, he is using his talent and love of music to make sure people never forget.

Bialor wrote, composed and produced an opera, "The Uprising of the Warsaw Ghetto."

"The opera is about survival, about destruction," Bialor says. "When they open, they get out there with 350,000 Jews--they were all locked up."

He says he made up a story based on the history of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

With Holocaust survivors dwindling down in numbers, the 89-year-old says he hopes his opera make a difference.

"When we are gone, nobody will be there to tell the story so it has to be in books, in plays and in an opera," Bialor says.

Bialor's opera will be performed Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Yeshiva of Flatbush.
