Jumaane Williams honored in Flatlands for his impact on the community

Public advocate Jumaane Williams was honored Sunday during services at Kingslawn Presbyterian Church in Flatlands.
The congregation recognized Williams for working to make a difference in the community.
The Shirley Chisholm Award aims to shed light on people who are impacting the community. The accolade is named after the first black female congresswoman and was also known for fighting for racial and gender equality.
Williams has made strides fighting gun violence in the community and in raising awareness about the need for affordable housing in the city.
Williams was recognized along with two other members of the church's congregation.
This is the second annual year that the church has given out the award.
