Two weeks after employees at IndigoStyle Vintage in Bedford-Stuyvesant found the store broken into, it is back in business – thanks to the help of online donors.

Without support driven from an Instagram post and hundreds of donors, employees at IndigoStyle Vintage say that they would not be back up and running.

The shop, owned by Sheryl Roberts, sells goods made from African American designers and makers. It’s been open since June.

On Feb.18, Roberts and her staff found that their store was broken into. The windows that displayed various works of fashion and jewelry were smashed and items were stolen.

 

The employees figured that filing a claim with their insurance would not be the best move financially, so Roberts took to Instagram to ask her followers for donations. Within a few days, IndigoStyle Vintage received over $3,000 in donations, which was enough to fix the window displays and upgrade to a safer security system.

On Saturday, employees held a “thank you” party to celebrate.

 

Roberts told News 12 that police are investigating the incident.
