Police say a train conductor was attacked in an East Flatbush subway station Wednesday night.
The vice president of the Transport Workers Unions tells News 12 it happened around 7 p.m. while the train was stopped inside the Beverly Road subway station.
According to officials, the doors weren’t closing, so the conductor went to see what was wrong. They say he found a man holding a train door open.
Police say the two began arguing, and that the man holding the door punched the conductor and hit him with something heavy.
News 12 is told the conductor is 26 years old, from the Bronx, and has been with the MTA for three years. He is in the hospital in stable condition.
He suffered injuries to his head, back and chest.
A spokesperson for the MTA told News 12 in part, "tonight's assault of a conductor who was simply doing his job is despicable. The conductor was working to keep customers safe and service moving when he was attacked. "
An MTA bus driver was also attacked in the Bronx Monday. Police are searching for two men in connection to that incident.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
