A New Jersey group is helping hundreds of seniors get a quality breakfast and dinner each day in Paterson, as many cannot leave their homes due to the coronavirus pandemic.
North Jersey Mutual Aid prepared more than 20 meals for seniors at the IHOP on Main Street Saturday morning, which were delivered to the Joseph Conner Senior Center.
IHOP provides the meals for free. The group says there is no direct contact with seniors, and that the food is dropped off with a representative at the senior center and then distributed within.
Zellie Thomas says he started North Jersey Mutual Aid to ensure senior citizens in his community did not go hungry and had all the supplies they need.
Organizers say eight to 10 volunteers will also distribute nearly 100 meals for dinner to seniors throughout Paterson, Newark and Hudson County.
The group receives the meals as donations from local restaurants and with financial donations.
