Thousands of nurses are answering the call from state and city officials and are traveling to New York City to combat the coronavirus.
News 12 spoke with two nurses from different states and with different experiences who are now united in the city's fight against COVID-19.
Clare Shanley is an emergency room nurse from Richmond, Virginia, and Monique-Jolicia Johnson is a nurse who traveled for years before settling down in Miami, Florida.
Both of them are now living at a Manhattan hotel for the next few weeks. They are working 12-hour shifts for 21 straight days at hospitals in the Bronx.
They say they have been pleasantly surprised by no shortage of personal protective equipment and pretty standard patient loads. They also recognize the support that’s coming from their loved ones at home and their newfound families at their hospitals.
