Coronavirus testing sites opened in Coney Island and Manhattan Saturday as Mayor Bill de Blasio says the number of testing sites will triple by the middle of May.

Tests are available at the Ida G. Israel Clinic. The administration is pushing to expand testing across all five boroughs.

De Blasio says testing is a central issue through the coronavirus pandemic and that it will be key moving forward into the next phase.

There are 13 community sites open with the addition of the two locations; 10 of the sites are at Health + Hospitals clinics and three are at NYCHA complexes.

Many of the sites were specifically placed in underserved communities, as statistics show that more than 60% of virus-related deaths in the city have been black and Hispanic people.

Officials expect to complete 35,000 tests in the upcoming week. Once all 30 sites are open, they will be able to test 43,000 people weekly for COVID-19.
