Dominican author Elizabeth Acevedo details complex sistership, grief in ‘Clap When You Land’ novel

Separated by distance and bound by their father’s secret, Dominican author and New York Times bestseller Elizabeth Acevedo details the complex discovery of sistership in her novel “Clap When You Land.”
The novel is based on a tragedy that changed the lives of many families almost 19 years ago.
On November 12, 2001, 251 passengers, nine crew members and five people on the ground were killed when an American Airlines flight, on its way to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, crashed into homes in the Rockaways.
In a dual narrative that brims with both grief and love, Acevedo details how Yahaira and Camino Rios are forced to face a new reality after suddenly losing their father and then when it seems like they've lost everything of their father, they learn of each other.

In a News 12 Digital exclusive, Elly Morillo and Acevedo talk about common themes mentioned throughout the novel, sisterhood and more.
