Haven’t moved your car in a while? Starting today New Yorkers will have to abide by alternate side parking rules, at least for the next couple of days.

It is the first time that drivers will need to move their cars since the city suspended alternate side parking on March 18.

It’s been 61 days since the city suspended alternate side parking. After 9/11 alternate side parking was suspended for several weeks, and during Superstorm Sandy in 2012 it was suspended for a little more than two weeks. The record for longest suspension of alternative side parking was set in 1978 when it was suspended for 62 days because of brutal weather, according to media reports at the time.

The mayor announced the return last Monday saying he hopes it will help clean up some of the debris that’s gathered over the last couple of weeks.

It will resume today through Sunday, May 24. However, it will be suspended May 21 for Solemnity of the Ascension and May 24 for Eid al-Fitr.

Alternate side parking will then again be suspended until June 7.
