New research has been released on COVID-19 in children.

This comes as the cases of multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children continue to rise. In New York City, the cases are now at 147 -  96 of those children have tested positive for COVID-19 or had antibodies. 

Montefiore researchers found kids requiring intensive care had higher levels of inflammation and needed breathing support, compared to those who were treated in a general unit. 

"Obviously, what we have seen with this new syndrome MIS-C causes us additional concern because it is about safety and health so if something new is happening or something has become evident that wasn't evident before we are going to focus on it and stay focused on it and it will of course it will be a focus be a factor in what we do with our schools going forward,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. 

Parents are advised to call 311 or a doctor if you notice the following symptoms:

-Persistent fever

- Sluggishness or irritability 

- Abdominal pain

- Rash, red or pink eyes

- Swollen hands or feet

- Red cracked lips or tongue

- Enlarged lymph nodes
