Protesters gathered outside Metropolitan Detention Center for the second day in a row Friday in a peaceful demonstration to honor Jamel Floyd, who was pepper sprayed and died on Wednesday.
The Department of Justice says they would investigate Floyd’s death. However, protesters continued to chant ‘no justice, no peace.’
They are asking that the video of the incident and the medical records be released.
Floyd’s family was also present on Friday. They say the 35-year-old was set to come home in just four months and that he was asthmatic.
They allege that the pepper spray caused his death because he could not breathe.
Officials tell News 12 that Floyd was barricading himself in his cell and using a metal object to try and get out when they sprayed him.
They say they immediately sought medical attention.
