Mayor: Subway ridership up 25%, bus ridership up 23% 5 days into phase 1 reopening

Mayor Bill de Blasio gave an update Friday as New York City entered its fifth day of phase one reopening.

He says that subway ridership is up 25% from last Wednesday to this Wednesday, with bus ridership up 23%.

Mayor de Blasio also announced that Signature Bank has given $750,000 to help small businesses restart. The grant total for small businesses is now at $1.25 million.
The mayor says the city will continue to strive to keep vulnerable New Yorkers cool and safe at home this summer.

He says nearly 4,500 AC units will be installed, with more than 1,900 in NYCHA housing. He says 188,360 seniors have been contacted and 25,000 have enrolled to have air conditioning installed so far.

The Public Service Commission has also approved the city's petition to help low-income New Yorkers with their summer bills.

In addition to summer safety, the mayor also talked about voting.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail, phone, fax or online is June 16. The primary election in New York will be June 23 and all absentee ballots much be postmarked by that day.
