Firework complaints spike in East Flatbush, residents fed up with noise

Residents in East Flatbush say a recent spike in fireworks is creating loud noises that keep them up at night.
Residents tell News 12 the fireworks have gone on for hours every night the past few for weeks. Some senior citizens tell News 12 the noise scares them, which affects some of the medical issues that they have.
City data shows that the amount of fireworks complaints have increased dramatically from 21 complaints this time last year to more than 1,700 complaints this year.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and City Council member Robert Cornegy are calling on the city to use a combination of law enforcement and violence prevention programs such as NYC Cure Violence to respond to the complaints.
Council member Mathieu Eugene says he created a community group to figure out a way to best resolve the situation.
