Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday that a multi-agency task force will crack down on illegal fireworks sales has been established.

The task force will target suppliers, distributors and possessors of illegal fireworks by conducting investigations and operations within and outside of the city to disrupt supply chains.

The task force will consist of 10 NYPD officers from the Intelligence Bureau, 12 FDNY Fire Marshals and 20 members of the Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The mayor says the FDNY will also be launching a public safety campaign, including public service announcements and social media campaigns to show the dangers of illegal fireworks.

New York City and Macy’s will be bringing a unique firework display to all five boroughs with shows starting June 29. The Fourth of July finale will be live on NBC from the top of the Empire State Building. The mayor says the shows will be weather permitting.

Alternate Side Parking will also will go through some changes. Mayor de Blasio says the city will amend Alternate Side Parking regulations. He says New Yorkers will no longer need to move their cars multiple times a week.

Streets that have multiple ASP days would be cleaned on the latest day posted on the street’s sign. The city will resume ASP next week and decide each week thereafter whether to resume or suspend it based on street conditions.

The mayor also brought up the continuation of free meals during the summer months.

Free grab-and-go meals will be extended all summer long with 400 Meal Hubs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Vegetarian and halal meals will be available at all sites and kosher meals at select sites.

The mayor says 70 million total meals have been served across GetFood NYC’s Grab & Go Meal Hubs and Emergency Food Home Delivery. Meal Hubs will also now offer take home pizza meal kits that can be cooked at home using an oven, toaster over and microwave.
