Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday that New York City beaches will open July 1 for swimming.

The mayor says beach-goers must follow all social distancing guidelines.

He says beach-goers should visit only with members of their immediate household. They should also maintain six feet distance of others while swimming and on beaches and boardwalks.

They should also keep beach blankets and chairs at least 10 feet from others. Beach-goers are also required to wear a mask when unable to maintain a social distance and should refrain from group activities.

Cool it! NYC will also provide cooling relief for the city’s most burdened neighborhoods this summer, according to the mayor.

The city will reopen 950 existing cooling elements and will add 250 new sites, including sprinklers, spray showers and misting stations.

During heat advisories, FDNY and DEP will proactively install up to 320 additional spray caps to hydrants citywide.

The city has also registered 37,200 seniors for free AC units. Of those, 23,200 are in private homes and 14,000 are NYCHA seniors. So far, 18,274 units have been installed, with nearly 1,500 daily installations.

The city will also open 23 new miles of Open Streets. The new miles will bring New York City to a total of 67 miles, the most in the nation.

New York City will allow private camps to use space in NYC Parks this summer. The Parks Department and the Department of Health will review over 350 application for camp permits.
