The NYPD’S Hate Crimes Unit is investigating after a Jewish man says he was punched in the face last week in Midwood.
Police tell News 12 the man says he was crossing the street at the intersection of Kings Highway and East 26th Street when a group of people yelled out the window of their car “you f-ing Jew.”
Police say the men are then seen in the surveillance video, released by the NYPD, jumping out of the car and chasing him down. Investigators say they punched the 51-year-old man in the head and body causing a cut to his forehead and a hairline fracture to his finger.
It happened around 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 right in front of 2525 Kings Highway, which is New York Community Hospital. Police say the victim walked into the hospital, and was treated and released.
The Anti-Defamation League says this attack took place during the sabbath, which makes it even more upsetting. They also say last Thursday, a Jewish man wearing a yarmulke told police he was attacked by someone with a bat or stick while walking down the street.
The ADL is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for each of the attacks in addition to the NYPD Crime Stoppers reward.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
