Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, is now a free man after a judge dismissed sexual assault charges against him.

Strauss-Kahn walked out of a courthouse in Manhattan today after an appeals court dropped a request by his accuser, Nafisatou Diallo, for a special prosecutor.

Diallo claimed that Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her while she was working as a maid at a luxury hotel. Yesterday, however, prosecutors recommended that a judge throw out all or some of the charges against Strauss-Kahn because of Diallo's questionable credibility.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said Diallo also lied about being raped before in order to gain asylum in the United States.
