Pet owners are the latest to feel the crunch during these tough economic times as animals are being abandoned in record numbers.

Many pet owners have been forced to give up their pets due to eviction, foreclosure or lack of accessible funds. Sean Casey?s Animal Rescue in Brooklyn has had to turn people away due to the lack of available cage room.

?We had a woman come in on Christmas Eve with two dogs,? said Casey. ?We just didn?t have an empty cage.?

Casey advises struggling pet owners to switch to low-cost food, consider discount healthcare, and to cut out less important expenses.
