Sunset Park residents holding rent strike
Some Sunset Park residents are fighting back against their landlord by refusing to pay rent. Tenants on 46th Street say their landlord, Orazio Petito, has been issued more than 130 housing violations and has allowed unlocked mailboxes, crumbling walls and broken doors to devalue his buildings. They even say they lack heat and hot water in the winter and experience blackouts during the summer. Residents also say firefighters fined the landlord after they noticed a fan being used to cool off fuse boxes. News 12 Brooklyn reached out to Petito, but he has yet to comment.
