Surveillance footage shows police car in head-on collision in Canarsie
A chaotic scene erupted when a police car collided head-on with another vehicle in Canarise, and it was all caught on video.
Video shows the vehicles moving at full speed at the intersection of Farragut Road and East 96th Street. The vehicles collide, then careen toward the sidewalk. The police car ends up being sandwiched between two street poles, while the other car hit a parked vehicle.
A Citizen app video shows the chaotic aftermath as EMS workers treated someone on the sidewalk.
Police say all injuries from the crash are considered minor, and no pedestrians were struck.
The intersection where the crash occurred has a stop light. It is not yet clear if one of the vehicles ran through a red light.
Authorities say the police car was responding to a call for aggravated assault about a mile away. They claim their car came to a stop before proceeding with lights and sirens on, although the lights did not appear to be on after the crash, and surveillance audio didn't pick up any sirens.
