The Bronx is celebrating Puerto Rican heritage and honoring some notable members of the community.

For nearly 30 years, the Bronx has embraced the diverse culture and celebrated Puerto Ricans and their contributions to the city. Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. continued the tradition Wednesday night.

Diaz honored three people who have helped further Puerto Rican heritage and culture. Among the three honored was the co-founder of the Puerto Rican Day Parade, Maria Roman.

While guests had food and enjoyed music during Wednesday night's celebration, it was also a time for reflection. The community remembered the devastation that took place when Hurricane Maria hit.

It was also a time to acknowledge that more work can continue to be done.

Dr. Jose Rodriguez and Former Executive Vice President of Roc Nation Shawn Costner were also honored at the event.
