A third teen accused of taking part in a shootout that killed a 4-year-old boy appeared in court today, where it was announced that his case would be presented to a grand jury.
Prosecutors say 19-year-old Ronald Jeffrey was with Rondell Pinkerton when they were involved in a shootout near a playground in Morrisania on July 23. Lloyd Morgan, 4, was killed when he was shot in the head while caught in the crossfire.
Jeffrey's attorney says his client was not at the scene and was not involved in the shootout. Family members who attended Jeffrey's hearing also defended him, saying what happened is a tragedy but he isn't to blame.
Jeffrey was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is due back in court on Sept. 13.
