Thousands protest prosecution of NYPD officer
Thousands of Asian-Americans marched across the Brooklyn Bridge to protest what they call the unfair prosecution of NYPD Officer Peter Liang.
Liang is the officer who shot and killed Akai Gurley inside the Pink Houses in East New York back in November. Police say his gun accidentally went off while Gurley was coming down a dark stairwell with his girlfriend, but he was still indicted by a grand jury.
Protesters believe Liang should not face charges because it was an accident. They also say he's being used as a scapegoat after other officers weren't charged in controversial killings, such as Eric Garner and Michael Brown.
Liang is facing a number of criminal charges, including manslaughter, and could spend up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
