Many people visit Brooklyn Bridge Park for its breathtaking views, but one visitor was in for a surprise when he noticed a tomato plant sprouting from a wooden piling.
The discovery was made by a kayaker, finding the tomato growing in the East River.
Visitors are confused, shocked and even a bit skeptical.
"First I want to know who put it there? Was it a bird or a kayaker? And then second, I want to know what it would taste like, if it was safe to eat it," says one park visitor.
Among all the reactions, even Heinz got in on the fun, with a rep saying, "Heinz saw the news, and since the brand knows a thing or two about good-looking tomatoes, Heinz is pledging to do its part to protect the tomato. We can't make any promises about the tomato's future, but we will soon have boots on the ground to survey the scene and alert us of any precarious activity."
The tomato is no longer in the park, but several others can be seen through binoculars, growing on wood pilings.
