A Canarsie resident turned to News 12 Brooklyn for help cleaning up the trash and overgrown weeds that cover a playground in the area.
Keion Marshall tells News 12 that the park is filthy. He says at one point, a television was dumped outside the park and stayed there for seven months.
He says he tried contacting 311 and the New York City Parks Department numerous times. He says if staff does come out, they just trim some of the shrubbery but don't sweep or clean.
Marshall says he constantly sees discarded food and trash bags. He feels the park isn't being taken care of because of the neighborhood it is in.
"This would not happen if this were Prospect Park, Central Park or any of the parks in Park Slope. I have to say that in Brighton Beach, Sheepshead Bay, you wouldn't see these kind of things, Bay Ridge. Why is this happening here and why is this acceptable?" he asks.
A spokesperson for the Parks Department responded to News 12's request for comment saying, "Our staff works hard to keep our parks clean and ensure we are addressing trash regularly. Our rules prohibit littering and dumping of debris. We ask New Yorkers to do their part by placing their trash in the appropriate receptacles."
