Williamsburg residents have come out against plans to build a residential facility for recovering addicts.

Damon House, a non-profit treatment center, plans to build an eight-story building for addicts and the homeless. The organization already has two existing sites in Brooklyn and has been a presence for more than 10 years.

The new treatment center would be used by patients who have successfully completed treatment. Its directors say their programs give people a second chance at life by allowing them to live in a drug-free environment.

Residents say they do not want the facility in their neighborhood. They say the building is near an elementary school and they don?t want children near it.

Damon House wants to build the center in a location currently occupied by a car wash. The owner of the car wash says he has no intention of moving.

Community Board 1 is scheduled to vote on the proposal next month.
