The trial of the man accused of killing two NYPD officers in East Flatbush got underway Monday.
Marlon Legere is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of detectives Robert Parker and Patrick Rafferty. In opening statements, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office said it has a truckload of evidence that shows Legere shot the two detectives on purpose. The prosecution says in 2004, Legere got into a fight with the two detectives, grabbed one of their guns and shot each of them four times. But the defense says Legere thought he was being attacked by two strangers and was fighting back in self defense.
Authorities say the detectives returned fire and called in Legere's description after being shot. Legere was taken into custody two hours after the incident.
