The trial of three suspects accused of murdering NYPD Officer Russel Timoshenko got under way Monday as three separate juries heard opening statements.
The three men are accused of killing Timoshenko and wounding Herman Yan, now a detective, during a traffic stop on July 9, 2007. Suspects Dexter Bostic, Robert Ellis and Lee Woods will be tried in the same courtroom, but with separate juries.
Family, friends and fellow officers were on hand for the beginning of the trial that is expected to last until December. If convicted, all three men will face life in prison.
