Urban farm in Bed-Stuy operates out of shipping containers
An urban farm in Bedford-Stuyvesant is raising crops from inside shipping containers.
Square Roots, located at 630 Flushing Ave., says it's the next generation of urban farming.
Founder Tobias Peggs and his farmers work out of 10 units that are actually in shipping containers in a parking lot but come equipped with everything from plant nutrients to a synthetic pink light for photosynthesis.
Peggs says the goal is to get residents away from industrialized and processed food and back toward Earth-grown herbs like arugula and mint, along with leafy greens.
Individual customers and businesses across New York City can sign up for delivery, which Square Root says will either bring food straight to the customer or have specialized pickup days.
