Residents without appointment turned away at new vaccination site in Brownsville
People were turned away at a new vaccination site that opened in Brownsville today.
The mayor’s office announced on Tuesday that vaccines would be available at Teachers Prep High School on the corner of Bristol Street and Blake Avenue starting at 8 a.m.
News 12 is now told that people who lined up were turned away.
The mayor's office says the vaccinations are by appointment only, but those who lined up say they looked last night and didn't see anything online. They say when they looked this morning the website said no appointments were available.
The vaccine site also opened at 10 a.m., two hours later than announced.
People turned away say they were told they could put their names on a list, and they would receive a call if there's availability.
The pharmacy company that runs the site, Capsule Pharmacy released a statement saying, "New Yorkers have been through so much this year, and Capsule has been there right alongside them, making sure their pharmacy needs were met even amid a global pandemic. We are proud to be a partner.”
