A vigil was being held Sunday night for the Bronx man who died after his dirt bike collided with a police cruiser on the University Heights Bridge.
A huge group of supporters showed up for a vigil in memory of Samuel Williams.
Williams, known to his family and friends as "Sami," was a father, a brother and a dear friend to many in the community.
He collided with the police car and was ejected from his bike.
Williams was cuffed and arrested before he was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
"My family wants to know why was he chased in the first place? Why is it once he hit the ground, why was he picked up and not left there for the ambulance to come? Why is it our family has to go through this type of a pain to lose him?" said Williams' cousin, Kashinda Cabble.
Dirt bikes are not street legal in New York City, but Williams' family says that should not cost someone their life.
They hope this will bring awareness for the city to consider providing a safe place for people to ride.
