A candlelight vigil was held Saturday night in honor of a restaurateur who was found dead a week ago inside of his Bronx factory.

Lowell Hawthorne, 57, the founder of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill, was a member of the Bronx community for nearly 30 years.

Hawthorne, a Jamaica native, was known for his success story, and his restaurant chain was known for its popular beef patties.

Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, released a statement in memory of Hawthorne that reads, "My condolences to the friends, family and employees of Jamaica-born Lowell Hawthorne…He headed the largest Caribbean franchise chain in the U.S., with more than 120 stores.”

The vigil was held at the Golden Krust’s first Bronx location on Gun Hill Road. 

News 12 is told Hawthorne's funeral will take place on Dec.19 at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn.
