Vigil honors man who was fatally shot by police
People gathered in Bedford-Stuyvestant Saturday to commemorate the life of a young man who was fatally shot by police 13 years ago.
Carlos Lopez was shot by an officer at the corner of Gates Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard. His family and members of the community came together at the spot and honored his memory.
Lillian Lopez says her son was shot by a plainclothes detective, and she believes he had been mistakenly idenfitied as a suspect in a drug deal.
Lopez says she has reached out to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office and says she was told last year that the NYPD is at fault. Lopez says she has tried to meet with the DA's Office again, but has been unsuccessful.
News 12 reached out to the DA's office for comment and was told there was no update but that they would respond next week.
Other parents who believe their children were wrongfully shot by law enforcement were also at the vigil to call for justice.
