Local lawmakers, survivors of solitary confinement and advocates came together virtually Wednesday to call for the enactment of the Halt Solitary Confinement Act. 

During the meeting, they called on the governor to swiftly pass the legislation if the Senate pushes forward the bill. 

The virtual meeting comes in the wake of the state Assembly passing the bill on Tuesday and pushing it to the state Senate to pass the bill, which is expected to happen on Thursday. 

The act will essentially limit the amount of time an inmate can spend in solitary confinement and in some cases, the practice will not be allowed at all for inmates deemed vulnerable.
