Nearly 400 homeless people living in shelters in Brownsville got a hot meal this Christmas Eve, plus an additional meal to take with them.
Kelvin Taitt gathered over a dozen volunteers to help prepare and cook meals at the United Christian Assembly Church on Atlantic Avenue in the hope of providing those less fortunate this holiday season with a warm and safe place to enjoy a meal.
He said that the idea came to mind after he moved into the neighborhood and witnessed how many people were living in the streets and in shelters.
On Monday, volunteers spent time away from their families and got to work cooking food and even handing out clothing.

The group was also able to provide some basic hygiene products, which they handed out in holiday bags.
