A freak accident in Brooklyn Thursday resulted in the death of a woman after she was fatally run over by an MTA bus.
It happened around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Flatbush and Flatlands avenues.
Police say the woman was trying to get off the bus and kicked open the door while it was moving. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
"At this time it appears that it's of no fault of the operator of a city bus and it's another tragedy of people not being careful and putting themselves in harm's way. It's another tragic loss of life, but it's something that definitely could've been avoided," says NYPD Deputy Chief Charles Scholl.
