Woman killed in Bushwick hit-and-run
A woman was killed Thursday evening in a hit-and-run in Bushwick.
Emergency units were called to the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m. after reports that a pedestrian had been struck between Ditmars Street and Willougby Avenue.
Upon arrival, police found the body of a woman with trauma to her head and body lying unresponsive on Broadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 46-year-old Alberta Bagu.
After further investigation, police determined that a private sanitation truck traveling south hit the victim as she attempted to cross the street.
Bushwick residents say it is the second time a sanitation truck has been involved in a hit-and-run crash in the area.
Investigators are still searching for the truck. No arrests have been made at this time.
