A 12-year-old boy was killed while playing on a parking lot gate on Lott Avenue this afternoon in Brownsville.

Witnesses say Yakim McDaniels and friends were playing on the gate to see who could hold on the longest as it rose up. McDaniels was holding onto the gate as it rose and became entangled in the gate, killing him.

Neighbors say this death could have been prevented if the building's management could provide areas on the property that children could play in safely.
