A young Bronx man is fighting for his life as he waits for a bone marrow transplant.
Dionis Guerrero Baez has more than a 50% chance of beating his cancer, but only if he finds a suitable match soon, doctors say. The search for a match usually begins with testing siblings, but Baez's mother and two sisters died in a plane crash in 2001.
News 12 The Bronx attended Dionis' bone marrow drive today to show everyone how easy it is to get tested. All it takes is a vigorous rub on the cheek with a swab.
Anyone can test to be a bone marrow match. The test can also be performed in the comfort of your own home.
