Bronx residents celebrated the opening of the new playground at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx Wednesday.
The playground was fully renovated thanks to funding from Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Council Member Vanessa Gibson's offices, with a partnership with NYC Parks.
The $1.35 million renovation includes new slides and jungle gyms for kids to enjoy at the southern end of the park.
"Let us not dismiss or discount the person who this park is named after. This is an Afro Puerto Rican man, or was an Afro Puerto Rican man, named Roberto Clemente. You should know who that is. He was not just a fantastic baseball player, but he was a great humanitarian," Diaz said.
The renovations also include a space for adults with brand-new fitness equipment and community garden areas.
