One person has died, and two people are injured after a car accident on the New England Thruway Friday morning.

Police say the accident occurred before 4 a.m. near Exit 12 at Baychester Avenue when a Toyota Camry swerved to avoid hitting a gray BMW that was on fire.

The Camry flipped over and hit a white Durango. The 22-year-old passenger of the Camry was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. The drivers of both vehicles are in stable condition.

Police say the BMW was discovered on fire and unoccupied. The 27-year-old drive of the Durango was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
