16-year-old faces felony weapons charge after loaded handgun found in Poughkeepsie

A Dutchess County teenager is facing felony charges after police say he was carrying an illegal handgun in Poughkeepsie.

City of Poughkeepsie police say officers conducted a field interview with a 16-year-old boy around 10:20 p.m. Saturday near Washington Street and Fallkill Place.

During the encounter, police say they recovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun with a defaced serial number.

The teen was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.

He is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police have not released additional details.
