The 17th Annual Brooklyn Film Festival kicked off Friday night in Williamsburg, starting off with the first two of nearly 100 films set to premiere over the next 10 days.
Three venues in the neighborhood will screen the movies through Sunday, June 8. Organizers say they want to raise interest in films, especially independent ones. The festival is also an opportunity to draw worldwide attention to Brooklyn.
Filmmakers around the world submitted more than 1,000 movies for consideration.
Tickets cost $12.
